The Honda Civic is the best-selling compact car in the United States, and has been for many years. For windshield service, that sales history has a practical consequence: Civic glass is manufactured in higher volumes than almost any other car in this segment. Honda Sensing on the Civic by generation
The 10th-generation Civic (2016 to 2021) introduced Honda Sensing to the compact segment. On that generation, the system was available on EX and higher trims but not standard on base LX or base Sport. If you have a 10th-gen Civic and are not sure whether yours has Honda Sensing, look for a small camera housing at the top center of the windshield, just below the headliner above the mirror mount. If it is there, calibration is required after replacement.
The 11th-generation Civic (2022 to present) made Honda Sensing standard on every trim, including the base LX. This is a meaningful change: a 2022 LX on a commuter lease has the same camera system as a Touring. It also means that nearly every Civic bought in the last three or four years in Atlanta carries Honda Sensing and will need calibration after a windshield job.
Honda Sensing on the Civic includes the Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS), Lane Keeping Assist (LKAS), Road Departure Mitigation, and Adaptive Cruise Control with Low-Speed Follow. The single forward-facing camera at the top of the windshield handles the lane and departure functions. After windshield replacement, the camera housing comes off the old glass and mounts to the new one. But the camera’s angular alignment is specific to the glass position. Static calibration with a target board at a measured distance resets that alignment. Without it, the system will not function reliably.

Acoustic glass on 11th-gen Civics
The 11th-gen Civic (2022 and newer) brought acoustic laminated glass to EX, Sport, and Touring trims. Acoustic glass has an extra sound-absorbing film between the panes. At highway speed on I-85 or GA-400, a Civic with acoustic glass runs noticeably quieter than one with standard laminate. Replacing an acoustic windshield with standard-grade glass changes the cabin character in a way most drivers notice on the first long drive.

10th-gen Civics (2016 to 2021) did not carry acoustic glass across the trim line, so for most of those cars, standard OEE laminate is the appropriate replacement.
Rain-sensing wipers appear on EX and above from 2022. The sensor bracket behind the glass transfers to the new windshield during the job. We verify sensor function before returning the car.
Civic body styles: sedan, hatchback, Si, Type R

Repair or replace
A chip smaller than a quarter that sits outside the Honda Sensing camera zone and outside the driver’s primary forward view is almost always a resin repair candidate. The camera zone on the Civic is the center-top area of the glass surrounding the mirror bracket, roughly six to eight inches wide. Outside that zone and outside the direct sightline, resin injection takes 25 to 30 minutes, the crack stops, and no calibration is needed after the repair.
Replace the glass when the crack is longer than six inches, when the damage is in the camera zone, when the crack starts at the glass edge (where it compromises the seal and will grow with temperature changes), or when the damage creates optical distortion in the driver’s view. Atlanta’s summer heat accelerates crack growth: a chip that sits quietly in February can start running by May when afternoon temperatures send thermal stress through the glass. Do not wait long on a chip in warm weather.
