The Honda Accord is one of the most common sedans on Atlanta roads. Count them on the Downtown Connector at 8 a.m. and you will run out of patience before you run out of Accords. That kind of volume has a practical upside when your windshield needs attention: Accord glass is widely stocked, OEM-equivalent parts are available from multiple suppliers, and same-day service is the norm rather than an upsell.
What has changed is what happens after the glass goes in.
Starting with the 2018 model year, Honda made Honda Sensing standard on every Accord trim. The system relies on a single forward-facing camera mounted at the top center of the windshield, just behind the rearview mirror bracket. Lane Keeping Assist (LKAS), the Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS), Road Departure Mitigation, and Adaptive Cruise Control with Low-Speed Follow all depend on that camera being precisely aligned. After windshield replacement, the camera housing transfers to the new glass, but its alignment to the vehicle does not transfer with it. The camera has to be recalibrated.
Toyota uses a different system, but for Honda: the calibration is static. A technician positions the Accord on a flat, level surface, places a calibration target board at the manufacturer-specified distance from the car, and runs through Honda’s alignment sequence using the diagnostic interface. The floor has to be genuinely level, the target has to be squared to the vehicle’s center axis, and the distance has to be measured, not estimated. Done correctly, the process takes 20 to 30 minutes and the system works exactly as it did before. Skipped or done sloppily, lane departure warnings can activate at the wrong moment or the CMBS may not detect stationary objects reliably.

Glass selection by trim
Not all Accord windshields are the same part. A few things worth knowing before you call:
LX and base Sport trims use standard laminated glass. High-volume OEE supply keeps costs lower for these trims. Multiple suppliers produce glass to Honda’s curvature and optical spec, which is why same-day scheduling holds up well year-round for these models.
EX, EX-L, Sport 2T, and Touring trims use acoustic laminated glass. The acoustic interlayer is a sound-absorbing film sandwiched between the two panes. It makes a measurable difference in cabin noise, especially at highway speed on I-285 or GA-400. Replacing an acoustic windshield with standard laminate saves a small amount upfront and makes the cabin noticeably louder. We stock OEE acoustic glass for these trims. Rain-sensing wipers appear on EX-L and Touring. The sensor bracket mounts behind the glass and transfers to the new windshield during the job. If the bracket is damaged during removal, we carry compatible replacements in stock.
Hybrid Accord trims use the same windshield glass as their non-hybrid counterparts at the same trim level.
When to repair, when to replace
If a chip is smaller than a quarter and sits outside the Honda Sensing camera zone (the area directly surrounding the mirror mount, roughly six inches wide at the top center of the glass) and outside the driver’s primary forward view, resin repair is usually the right call. The technician evacuates trapped air from the impact point with a vacuum tool, fills the void with optical-grade resin, and cures it under UV light. The whole process takes 20 to 30 minutes. The chip leaves a faint mark under certain light angles, but the crack stops spreading and the structural bond is restored. No calibration is needed after a repair.
Replacement is the right call when the crack runs longer than six inches, when any part of the damage is within the camera zone, when the crack runs along the glass edge (compromising the perimeter seal), or when the damage sits directly in the driver’s line of sight. Edge cracks in particular deserve attention quickly: Atlanta’s temperature swings between summer afternoons and cool mornings create thermal stress that will drive an edge crack further into the glass within days.

What the job looks like in practice
A typical Accord replacement starts with trim removal around the A-pillar and mirror mount. The old glass comes out using a cold knife tool that preserves the body channel. A new urethane bead goes down on the pinch weld, the new glass gets set, and the adhesive cures under infrared heat. After the glass is seated and the trim pieces are back on, the car moves to the calibration area for the Honda Sensing alignment sequence.
Hands-on time for the glass: 60 to 90 minutes. Calibration: 20 to 30 minutes. Safe drive-away adhesive cure: 30 to 45 minutes. Total from arrival to picking up your keys: two to two and a half hours for Honda Sensing-equipped models, closer to 90 minutes for older models without the camera system.
