Understanding your Fusion’s windshield requirements by model year
2006-2016: These Fusions generally have no forward-facing camera behind the windshield. Most use a straightforward single-pane windshield with or without a rain sensor. Replacement is a direct swap with no ADAS recalibration needed. If your Fusion is pre-2017 and does not have an optional safety package, the job is clean, fast, and lower cost.
2017-2018: Ford introduced Co-Pilot assist features progressively across these years. SE Sport, Titanium, and some SEL trims started receiving optional forward cameras and lane-keeping assist. If your 2017 or 2018 Fusion has lane-centering assist or forward collision warning, it has a camera behind the windshield that needs recalibration after replacement.
2019-2020: Co-Pilot360 became standard equipment on SE and above. Every Fusion from these years in SE trim or higher has the forward-facing camera and requires calibration after windshield replacement. The base Fusion S from these years is simpler and skips calibration.
The fastest way to confirm: look at the top-center of your windshield from inside the car. A black camera housing mounted near the rearview mirror bracket indicates Co-Pilot360 is present. If that area is clean, you have an older or base trim without ADAS.
Acoustic glass and rain sensors on the Fusion
Fusion Titanium trims available with optional acoustic glass use a thin polymer acoustic interlayer that reduces road and wind noise. If you have acoustic glass and it is replaced with standard glass, the change in cabin noise is noticeable on highway drives. We verify this when sourcing glass for your VIN and match the spec.
Rain sensors are common on SE and above across most Fusion model years. They sit at the top of the windshield and control automatic wiper speed. The replacement glass must include the correct rain sensor interface zone; otherwise the automatic wiper function stops working. We confirm this when ordering glass for your specific year and trim.
Fusion Sport: the overlooked trim
The Fusion Sport (2017-2019) came with a twin-turbocharged 2.7-liter V6, AWD, and a sport-tuned suspension — a genuine driver’s sedan that many owners care about deeply. Sport trims typically included the optional Co-Pilot Assist package, meaning most Fusion Sport windshield replacements require calibration. Repair or replace: reading the damage
A chip under one inch that is not in the driver’s direct line of sight and not in the camera’s field of view is a candidate for resin repair. We inject resin under vacuum, cure it under UV light, and polish in 20 to 30 minutes. The original glass is preserved, structural integrity is restored, and the repair is typically covered with no deductible under comprehensive insurance.
Any of the following typically means replacement:
- The chip or crack is directly in front of the camera sensor
- The crack is longer than 6 inches
- Damage sits at the windshield edge (edge cracks destabilize the seal faster than center cracks)
- There is delamination — a hazy, bubbled area around the damage
Atlanta’s temperature cycling accelerates crack growth. The metro goes from cool overnight lows to hot afternoon sun repeatedly, and that thermal movement drives a 2-inch crack to 8 inches over two weeks without much help.
OEM vs OEE glass: what matters for a Fusion
For older, pre-ADAS Fusions: OEE (original equipment equivalent) glass from a reputable supplier is a sound, cost-effective choice. It meets all Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards.
For Co-Pilot360-equipped Fusions: the replacement glass must be compatible with the camera bracket and, on acoustic-glass models, should include the acoustic interlayer. We use OEM or certified OEM-equivalent glass for these trims to ensure calibration comes out correctly and acoustic properties are maintained.
The Fusion is no longer in production, which limits some OEM glass supply. Our shop stocks the most common Fusion windshields; less common configurations typically arrive within one to two business days.
