The Dodge Charger pulls double duty in Atlanta in a way few vehicles do. It is the muscle sedan that enthusiasts drive for weekend performance runs, and it is the pursuit vehicle that Georgia police agencies operate in hundred-unit fleets. Both audiences need windshield service, and the two use cases have different requirements.
Glass Inc has handled Charger windshields from our 510 Glen Iris Dr NE shop since 1956, including commercial and fleet accounts for agencies and businesses running multiple units.
ADAS on the Charger: who has it and who does not
Like the Challenger, the Dodge Charger’s ADAS equipment was optional rather than standard. The SafetyTec Group package brought forward collision warning, lane departure warning, and rear cross-path detection to the Charger — and with it, a forward-facing camera mounted behind the windshield.
Most Charger buyers on base SXT, GT, and R/T trims did not opt for SafetyTec. No camera behind the windshield means no calibration needed after replacement. The service is a direct glass swap.
Scat Pack and Hellcat Chargers were performance purchases, and most of those buyers skipped the safety add-ons too, though SafetyTec was available as an option on some model years.
Police Pursuit Value (PPV) and Police Pursuit (AWD) Chargers are configured for law enforcement duty. Police-spec Chargers remove most consumer ADAS features. Replacement on a pursuit Charger is straightforward glass service with no calibration step.
How to check: look at the top-center of the windshield near the rearview mirror from inside the car. A black camera housing indicates SafetyTec is present and calibration is required. A clean area means you are in the simpler camp. We can also confirm via VIN if you are not sure.
Fleet Charger service: what agencies and businesses need
Atlanta-area law enforcement agencies, taxi operators, and businesses running Charger fleets face a different problem than single-vehicle owners. When a unit is down, operations take the hit. We offer fleet scheduling through our shop and mobile service to fleet yards so you can handle multiple vehicles without pulling everything off the road at once.
Fleet service ranges from single-unit replacements to scheduled mobile visits. For fleet accounts, contact us at sales@glassinc.net or call (404) 873-6991 to discuss consolidated billing and priority scheduling.
The Charger windshield: size and installation
The Charger carries a wide, large-format windshield — the full-size sedan body moves more glass area than most vehicles in its class. The glass is heavier than a compact’s and the pinch-weld is wider. We use vacuum lift rigs sized for full-size performance sedan glass to avoid flex during installation.
Interior trim removal on the Charger requires specific tools for the A-pillar and rearview mirror bracket. The Charger does not have a standard heated windshield or acoustic glass option, so most replacements involve standard laminated safety glass — no special interlayer sourcing required.
The backup camera on the Charger is mounted in the trunk lid badge area, not behind the windshield. Windshield replacement does not affect backup camera function.
Chip repair vs replacement: reading the damage
A fresh chip under one inch with no spreading fingers and away from any camera zone is repairable. We inject resin under vacuum, UV-cure, and polish in 20 to 30 minutes. The original glass is preserved, structural integrity is restored, and the repair is typically covered fully by comprehensive insurance with no deductible.
Replacement is the call when:
- The crack is over 6 inches long
- Damage sits at the windshield edge
- The chip is directly in the driver’s line of sight
- A SafetyTec-equipped Charger has damage inside the camera’s field of view
- There is delamination or bubbling around the damage
Atlanta’s temperature swings accelerate crack growth. A 3-inch crack on a Monday morning is often an 8-inch crack by Friday after several cycles of overnight cool and afternoon heat.
What replacement involves
Moulding and trim removal, cold-cut extraction of the old glass from the pinch-weld, primer application, urethane bead at the correct gauge, new glass via vacuum lift, infrared cure. On a Charger without ADAS, the job takes 60 to 90 minutes. Safe drive-away in one hour.
For SafetyTec-equipped Chargers: the camera bracket transfers to the new glass, and we run full calibration with Dodge-approved targeting stands before the car leaves. Total: 90 to 120 minutes. See our ADAS calibration service for more on what calibration involves.
OEM and OEE glass for the Charger
Dodge ended Charger production in 2023. OEM glass is available for recent model years, and OEE glass covers the full production run. For SafetyTec-equipped Chargers, the replacement glass must be camera-compatible; we confirm this when ordering for your VIN. Common Charger windshields are in stock at our Midtown shop. Specialty configurations typically arrive within one to two business days.
Frequently asked questions
My Charger is an R/T with no safety features. What does replacement cost?
Most non-ADAS Charger replacements run $250 to $500 installed. No calibration required. We handle insurance verification and the claim process for you. Call (404) 873-6991 for a quote.
Does a police Charger need ADAS calibration?
No. Police Pursuit Value Chargers are not equipped with consumer ADAS packages. Replacement is a direct glass swap.
My Charger has forward collision warning. Does that mean I need calibration?
Yes. Forward collision warning on the Charger uses the SafetyTec forward-facing camera. After windshield replacement, that camera needs recalibration to function correctly. We include this in every replacement service for SafetyTec-equipped vehicles.
How fast can you replace a Charger windshield?
Same-day service is available. The job itself takes 60 to 120 minutes depending on ADAS equipment. Add one hour of adhesive cure time before driving. Book at instant quote or call us.
Do you service fleets?
Yes. We handle fleet accounts for law enforcement, commercial operators, and businesses. Contact sales@glassinc.net or call us to discuss scheduling and volume pricing.
