What type of damage do you see?

The Dodge Challenger was in production from 2008 through 2023 — a 15-year run that ended with some of the wildest special editions in American muscle car history. Thousands of Challengers drive Georgia roads, and when the windshield takes a hit, there is one thing owners want to know before anything else: do I need calibration, and how much will this cost?

For most Challengers, the answer is simpler than you might expect.

Glass Inc has worked on Challenger windshields from our 510 Glen Iris Dr NE shop since 1956. Our AGSC-certified technicians understand the wide-body coupe glass, the A-pillar seal geometry, and the ADAS situation for each trim.

Most Challengers do not need ADAS recalibration

This is the most practically important thing to know about Challenger windshield service.

The Challenger was primarily a driver’s car, and buyers of base SXT, R/T, and many Scat Pack trims frequently skipped the optional SafetyTec Group package. The SafetyTec package was required to get forward collision warning and lane departure warning — and it is the only package that includes a forward-facing camera mounted behind the windshield. Without it, there is no windshield camera, and no calibration is needed after replacement.

The result: a large portion of Challengers on the road today — especially R/T and Scat Pack trims — have no windshield camera. Replacement is a direct glass swap. No calibration charge, no additional time, and typically a lower total cost.

How to confirm your Challenger’s status: look at the top of your windshield from inside the car. If you see a small black camera housing near the rearview mirror mount, the SafetyTec package is present and calibration is required after replacement. If that area is clean, you are in the simpler camp.

Hellcat, Redeye, and Demon trims were performance-focused configurations. Most buyers of these cars were not opting for safety add-ons. SafetyTec was available on Hellcat trims as an option in some model years, but many cars were delivered without it. If you have forward collision warning or lane departure warning, we confirm and include calibration when needed.

The Challenger windshield: what makes it different

The Challenger has a wide, raked windshield — more glass surface area than a typical sedan. The glass is heavier and the installation requires larger lift equipment. We use oversized vacuum rigs sized for wide coupe glass to prevent flex damage during removal and installation.

The A-pillar trim on the Challenger is distinctive and requires careful removal to avoid cracking the interior plastic — a common error at shops not accustomed to the car. We use trim tools matched to the Challenger’s specific clip pattern.

Acoustic glass is not a standard or common option on the Challenger. Most Challengers use standard laminated safety glass without an acoustic interlayer, so replacement is a like-for-like swap in most cases.

Chip repair vs replacement

A chip under one inch that is away from the driver’s direct line of sight and from any camera zone is a candidate for resin repair. We inject resin under vacuum, UV-cure it, and polish. 20 to 30 minutes. You keep the original glass.

Chips directly in the driver’s sight line, cracks longer than 6 inches, or any edge damage typically mean replacement. The Challenger windshield is large — a crack that starts at the bottom edge of the glass has a long path to travel and tends to spread faster than drivers expect, especially through Atlanta’s back-and-forth temperature swings between seasons.

What replacement involves

Trim removal, cold-cut extraction of the old glass, pinch-weld prep, urethane bead application, new glass install via powered vacuum lift, and infrared cure. On a Challenger without ADAS, the job runs 60 to 90 minutes and you can drive in one hour.

If your Challenger has the SafetyTec forward camera, we transfer the camera bracket to the new glass and run calibration with approved targeting stands before the car leaves. Total time extends to 90 to 120 minutes. See our ADAS calibration service for details on how this works.

Atlanta conditions and the Challenger

Challengers tend to get parked outside. During Atlanta’s March-to-May pollen season, windshields collect a thick coating that turns to an abrasive paste when wiper blades drag it across glass. Over time this creates fine scratches that scatter oncoming headlights at night. If you are dealing with significant wiper scratch haze, a full replacement is the only fix — there is no way to polish out embedded scratching across an entire windshield.

I-75, I-85, and I-285 see regular gravel truck and construction debris traffic. Any vehicle traveling these corridors is in chip territory, and a Challenger sitting lower to the road can catch debris at close range from larger vehicles running alongside.

OEM glass for a discontinued vehicle

Dodge ended Challenger production in 2023. OEM glass from the original suppliers is still available for recent model years. OEE glass is widely available across the full 2008-2023 model range. For SafetyTec-equipped Challengers, the replacement glass must be camera-compatible; we confirm this before ordering for your VIN. Common Challenger windshields are in stock at our Midtown shop; specialty configurations typically arrive within one to two business days.

Frequently asked questions

My Challenger is an R/T with no safety package. What does replacement cost?

Most base and mid-trim Challenger replacements without ADAS run $250 to $450 installed. No calibration needed. Insurance with comprehensive coverage handles the cost; we verify your coverage and manage the claim. Call (404) 873-6991 for a quote.

How do I know if my Challenger has the SafetyTec package?

Check the top-center of your windshield from inside the car. A black camera housing near the mirror mount means SafetyTec is present. You can also check your original window sticker or build-sheet in your glove box, or we can confirm via VIN at booking.

Does a Challenger Hellcat need calibration?

Only if it has the SafetyTec package. Many Hellcat buyers did not spec it. We confirm before we start — no surprises on the invoice.

Can you do mobile service for my Challenger?

Yes. We bring glass and tools to your home, office, or any Metro Atlanta location. Book at instant quote or call us.

How long does the adhesive cure before I can drive?

One hour for standard drive-away. In cold weather, allow up to two hours. Your technician will give you a specific time based on install conditions.
