What type of damage do you see?

The most common auto glass complaints we hear from new customers are not about glass quality or price. They are about the experience: the shop that quoted one number and charged another, the technician who showed up two hours outside the promised window, the car returned with a squealing wind noise that was not there before, and nobody who could be reached afterward.

This is a guide to what actually happens when you schedule service with Midtown Glass Atlanta — from the first call to driving away. Not aspirational. The ordinary version of what we do every day from our shop at 510 Glen Iris Dr NE.

The First Call

When you reach us at (404) 873-6991, you will talk to someone with working knowledge of auto glass, not a call center reading a script.

We ask for your vehicle’s year, make, model, and trim; a description of the damage; and whether you prefer service at our Midtown shop or mobile at your location. With that information, we can tell you on the spot whether the damage qualifies for repair or needs a replacement, give you an all-inclusive price covering glass, labor, adhesive, mobile travel (if applicable), and ADAS calibration for vehicles that require it, and confirm same-day availability for most jobs.

The price quoted on that first call is the price you pay. There is one exception: if a technician arrives and finds additional damage that meaningfully changes the job (a second crack that was not visible in your photos, for example), we discuss it with you before doing anything. We do not proceed on an expanded scope without your approval.

If a $65 chip repair is the right solution, we say so. We do not push replacements when repairs will handle the damage.

Insurance

For drivers with comprehensive coverage, we handle the insurance process. You give us your carrier name and policy details. We verify your coverage, confirm your deductible, and bill the insurer directly. You pay only your deductible when service is complete.

Many comprehensive policies cover chip repairs with zero deductible. We check this when we verify your coverage — if a repair is possible and your policy covers it fully, we tell you before anything else happens.

Common carriers we work with: State Farm, GEICO, Progressive, Allstate, Liberty Mutual, USAA, Farmers, Nationwide, and most others. If your insurer is not on that list, ask. We work with virtually every carrier writing policies in Georgia.

Scheduling

Same-day service is available for most jobs. Calls made before noon typically result in same-day completion, either at our shop or at your location via mobile.

Mobile service covers all of metro Atlanta: Alpharetta, Roswell, Cumming, and Johns Creek to the north; Decatur, Lawrenceville, and Duluth to the east; College Park and Peachtree City to the south; Marietta, Smyrna, and Kennesaw to the west; and all points in the city including Buckhead, Virginia-Highland, Grant Park, and East Atlanta.

Mobile service requirements: the vehicle should be on a flat surface with some protection from heavy rain, and ambient temperature should be above 40 degrees Fahrenheit. These conditions matter for proper urethane adhesive application and curing.

We confirm the appointment with a time window and send a notification when the technician is en route.

At the Shop or On-Site: What the Technician Does

Whether you bring your vehicle to Glen Iris Drive or we come to you, the service sequence is the same.

Protection first: Before touching the glass, the technician covers your dashboard, steering wheel, seats, and the painted surfaces around the windshield opening. Drop cloths and adhesive-backed masking material are standard for every job. Adhesive drips and glass dust on interior surfaces are avoidable, so we avoid them.

Damage confirmation: The technician examines the damage in person and confirms the plan matches the phone assessment. If the crack grew since your photos were taken, we discuss the updated situation before proceeding.

For repairs: The damaged area is cleaned, air is evacuated from the chip or crack using a vacuum injector, resin is introduced under controlled pressure, and UV light cures it in place. The surface is then polished smooth. Total time: 25 to 35 minutes. You drive immediately after.

For replacements: The old windshield is cut free from its urethane bond and carefully removed. The pinch weld channel is inspected for rust or corrosion. If we find rust, we address it before the new glass goes in — skipping this step is what leads to installation failures six months later. Primer is applied to the clean metal, urethane adhesive is laid in a continuous bead around the perimeter, and the new glass is positioned and aligned precisely. For vehicles with forward-facing ADAS cameras, calibration follows immediately after the glass is set.

Quality inspection: Before returning your keys, we walk the seal perimeter and press to check for gaps, verify the glass sits flush with the roof and A-pillars, and confirm that any ADAS systems are functioning correctly.

Cleanup: We vacuum glass particles from the interior, remove all protective covers, and wipe down the dashboard and glass surfaces. The vehicle goes back to you in the same condition as when we received it, minus the damaged glass.

After the Service: What You Need to Know

Cure time: After a windshield replacement, the urethane adhesive needs one to two hours to reach the minimum drive-away strength. The exact time depends on temperature and humidity. Your technician will give you a specific wait time based on conditions that day. Driving before the adhesive has cured sufficiently puts mechanical stress on a bond that has not yet reached full strength.

First 24 to 48 hours:

  • Keep the windows cracked slightly for the first 24 hours. This equalizes air pressure during curing and prevents the glass from being pushed outward by high interior pressure (from doors closing).
  • Do not go through a car wash for 48 hours.
  • Do not peel off the interior retention tape strips early. They hold the glass position during initial curing.

Warranty coverage: Every installation is backed by a workmanship warranty covering leaks, wind noise, and adhesive failure. If you notice any of these after the cure period, call us. We will schedule an inspection and make it right at no charge. The warranty is not a document in a drawer — it is a commitment we actually honor.

For more complex jobs — ADAS-equipped vehicles, luxury glass, or vehicles with pre-existing pinch weld issues — we encourage a brief follow-up call a week after service to confirm everything is performing correctly.

Why the Details Matter

Auto glass is a structural safety component. The windshield contributes to roof crush resistance in a rollover, serves as a backstop for passenger airbag deployment, and houses the cameras that power your collision avoidance systems. An installation done carelessly — skipped primer, too-fast adhesive, rushed alignment — may look fine for the first month and then develop a leak, wind noise, or seal failure.

The way a shop handles the service experience reflects how they handle the installation itself. Shops that are vague about pricing tend to be vague about steps. Shops that rush the scheduling process tend to rush the work. The details of the customer experience are not separate from the quality of the technical work. They are the same thing.

We have been doing this work in Atlanta since 1956. Our long-standing reputation in this city reflects that consistency.
